Writing and Performing the Monologue: Craft Talk
@ Hudson Valley Writers Center
Saturday, August 6, 12:30-2:30
Accessing an interior life, and giving voice to that life in a way an
audience can believe in it, is the art of monologue. In this workshop
you will listen to & learn how to write the kind of monologue that gives
voice to your interior life or the life of a character you create.
Work under Jayne’s mentorship to draft, revise or complete
your project in memoir, monologue, poetry or a mixed genre.
Coaching sessions offer deadlines, careful reading, expert
observations and actionable advice about your writing. Jayne’s
clients perform and publish their projects with national
theaters, presses and journals. If you are eager to begin,
re-start or move forward with your manuscript or podcast,
please make contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Let me say a few words about Jayne. I took a class with Jayne, and I was lucky—inclement weather kept everyone else away. She gave me a whole new perspective on what I was doing. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her love for her craft made her a great teacher. I had to share her subsequently, and every class was a revelation.

Jayne listens incisively, responding with clear and targeted feedback. She guides with conviction about form and voice, honed by decades of deep reading and writing. And she is sensitive to the individual student— knowing when to nudge, when to step back, when to get specific, when to demand more. Finally, she is a brilliant editor!
